The Royal Palace is located on the right of the Duomo's facade, currently it is a cultural center of the city used as exhibition area, but for many centuries it was the seat of the government and royal residence until 1919.
In front of the Royal Palace, with access from Piazza Duomo, there is the Victor Emmanuel II Gallery, a paved and covered pedestrian street (like a "gallery"), surrounded by elegant boutiques of well-known international brands, luxury shops and local refreshment, also nicknamed "Milan's living room" being the meeting place of the middle class and shopping lovers.
Crossing the Gallery, you reach Piazza della Scala where there is one of the most prestigious theaters in the world, the Scala Theatre, the main opera house in Milan which has hosted over 200 years famous artists and musicians especially of classical music.
